2019 Proposed Overnight Parking Ban

West Shore Park Corporation

                June 19, 2019

Dear WSPC Members,

The Board has been asked by a number of residents to work together with Fremont Township, the fire department, and the sheriff’s office to address parking issues throughout the neighborhood.

After meeting with fire, sheriff, and township representatives, it is clear that we have some significant safety issues that must be addressed.  Our neighborhood has changed a lot over the years and the roads were designed for fewer homes with much lower density. We have had issues with people parking on the roads and emergency vehicles having difficulty getting to residences. We (along with fire and police) feel that this is a major issue.  Also, due to people continuing to park on the roads during snow storms, our roads cannot be properly and safely plowed.

In light of these issues, we are considering supporting the recommendation that the township enact a No Parking Overnight ordinance as was suggested by both the fire and police departments. It would be in effect from 2 a.m. – 6 a.m. and all night when it snows more than a certain amount. Residents would be able to call the Lake County Sheriff to get waivers for special circumstances (guest in town, party, blacktopping their driveway, etc.). Residents may be allowed to install “parking pads” along the right of way in front of their property in order to keep their vehicles in compliance (they will need to meet certain requirements from the township).

If you’d like to voice your opinion, please email a board member or attend our next board meetings on Monday, July 1st or Monday, August 5th at 7:00 p.m. at the Countryside Fire Station #1, 801 S. Midlothian Road in Mundelein.

We value your feedback.

Thank you.
