HOMEOWNER FORUM

Doug Brunkow and Sean Hogan (both representing West Shoreland) had several questions for the WSPC Board. Westshoreland is billed annually from WSPC for the shared expense of beaches and parks.

  • Q: Why did WSPC need a recent survey? A: Surveys were needed to determine the correct property boundaries for beaches, parks, and the Taylor Lake Court property. Some surveys had been done several years ago and this project is almost completed.
  • Q: Why has there been an increase in the beach and park expenses? A: Some necessary beach and park maintenance projects were delayed due to the large expense of the WSP water tank replacement and the Forest Lane drainage/road project. Now that those are complete, there is a new focus on beaches and park repairs and improvements.
  • The upcoming seawall project was discussed and it was requested that WSPC Board keep WSL updated on the projected cost and plan for the project. It was also requested that WSPC board update WSL on beach and park expenditures so that they can plan accordingly for their own annual HOA dues.

Member Bob Hurley asked if WSPC employed an arborist or “tree doctor” to identify trees that may need to be removed. Answer: WSPC will receive a call from a member who will request that a specific tree be inspected to determine the health of the tree, and if the tree is on WSPC property or on a member’s property. If the tree is on WSPC property and is obviously a danger to property or people, the board will arrange to have it removed or trimmed as necessary. Mr. Hurley recommended that a new budget line be considered for an arborist or “tree doctor” to help determine the health of WSPC trees.

Mr. Hurley also asked who managed weed control on Diamond Lake. Weed control is managed by the Mundelein Park and Recreation District (MPRD) and was applied by ILM Environments Aquatic Consultants. A systemic herbicide treatment was applied on the entire lake to better control two invasive plants: Eurasian Watermilfoil and Curlyleaf Pondweed that inhibit native aquatic plant density in Diamond Lake in the spring. You can sign-up for email notifications from the MPRD – which includes notices regarding the application of the herbicide and information about the health of Diamond Lake at:

The NHTSA recommends the following safety tip for walking in a neighborhood without sidewalks such as WSP and West Shoreland: Pedestrians should walk FACING traffic and as far away from traffic as possible.  https://www.nhtsa.gov/road-safety/pedestrian-safety (Bicycles ride along WITH traffic.) Dog owners are also reminded to please obey leash laws and to always pick-up after your dog.
