  • Bruce Brodzik reported that the Mundelein Park District had the channel inspected and reviewed the 2024 Sediment Investigation Report at their last meeting. Minutes from the Mundelein Park and Recreation District (MPRD) meeting discussing the report can be viewed here: https://www.mundeleinparks.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Signed-Minutes-051324.pdf    Mr. Brodzik recommended that a member with a home on the channel should act as liaison between the MPRD and WSP.

  • Mr. Brodzik also expressed concern about possible contamination in the sand of our beaches from goose droppings. He will discuss his concern with the beach commissioners. He also received information on a possible non-toxic way to deter geese from going on the beach and will test the idea with a homeowner who lives adjacent to the block 1 beach.

  • Mr. Brodzik reported that spring maintenance of the prairie garden in Miller Park has begun with a controlled burn.

Mike Davenport reported that he received an email from a member who was concerned about another member possibly burning garbage. Burning garbage, refuse, or construction materials has been prohibited in unincorporated Lake County for many years. Please review the Open Burning Restrictions in Unincorporated Lake County here: https://www.lakecountyil.gov/4438/Open-Burning-Restrictions

Review and discussion of the Board and Officers Task List.

Larry Bakirtjy reported that the new park and beach signs will be installed.

The Corporate Transparency Act and how it may apply to WSPC has been discussed with legal counsel (KS&N of Mundelein) and will be completed as required.

Email issues continue. Some email servers have been marking some WSP outgoing emails as “undeliverable”. Some people do not receive some of the emails that are sent out. Fred Aichele is working with our email server tech support to try and resolve the issue. Please add [email protected] to your email contact list to help ensure you get WSP emails.

After 22 years of service to his community, Water Commissioner Brett Laureys has decided to step down from his position. WSP is currently looking for a member who would be interested in filling this important position. (Brett will continue to assist as he is able until a new Water Commissioner has been confirmed and will assist with the transition if able to.) Please contact Mike Davenport if you are interested. The board is incredibly grateful to Brett Laureys for all his years of remarkable service. Please send a “thank you” to Brett for his service to our community!

It is recommended that pedestrians walking at night or dusk/dawn should wear reflective clothing and have a flashlight or light-up leash for their dog. The NHTSA recommends the following safety tip for walking in a neighborhood without sidewalks such as WSP and West Shoreland: Pedestrians should walk FACING traffic and as far away from traffic as possible.  https://www.nhtsa.gov/road-safety/pedestrian-safety (Bicycles ride along WITH traffic.) Dog owners are also reminded to please obey leash laws and to always pick-up after your dog.
